It was a risk to take this on, I couldn’t even bear having the cameras rolling during the scorching but thankfully it worked and I couldn’t be more delighted with the outcome.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eSourced from trees that had to be felled due to Ash Dieback in woodland adjoining the workshop. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe object has been scorched with a blowtorch then meticulously burnished, removing loose char and bringing the surface to a slight polish. Inspired by ‘Yakisugi’, a Japanese method of wood preservation using fire.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe orientation and form of this bowl is chosen to highlight some beautiful, even and clean grain which was found after the initial exploratory cuts with the chainsaw. I’ve left the rim a little thicker on this one to accentuate the downturn detail. The rim is also undercut making the walls of the bowl much thinner than they appear. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll pieces are stamped with my makers mark, a very subtle ‘H’ on the underside so as to not detract from the beauty of the object. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e- hand wash or wipe down only.
