Some exceptionally beautiful grain and flame pattern through the piece.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is storm fallen beech, sourced one hundred meters down the road from us. It’s a tree that I’ve walked past my whole life and was sad to see it had fallen in the strong winds a few years ago. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI was even sadder to find it was destined to be firewood. After reasoning with the tree surgeons I managed to save a good portion of the main trunk. Being just under a meter in diameter it was a bit of an undertaking to get it back to the workshop.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe wood was delightfully clean but with a flame pattern unlike I had ever seen. Thick dark bands licking through the wood like fire.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis piece in particular I had been saving for something really special and I tackled it at a time when I felt ready to do it justice.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSuffice it to say, it’s up there with my all time favourite objects I’ve made.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne thing I absolutely love about it is how light reflects off the surface. At some angles you could be fooled into thinking it’s not wood at all but rather a water ripple frozen in time.
