Sourced from storm fallen timber harvested from our woodland. The log which this piece came from has been left outside in the elements where it has started to spalt, creating these beautiful black lines and dappled markings.
Left too long however, the wood gets too soft and becomes unusable. It’s a tricky balance to get right but something we are beginning to master.
By cutting and seasoning the wood, the spalting process stops. Then I have the pleasure of revealing what’s inside.
Here at Havelock Studio we take care of every part of the process from harvesting the timber, to processing, to drying and lastly carefully crafting the finished piece.
This dish design is about as simple as it gets. Born out of a desire to make the most of some small offcuts from really special timbers. They’d be perfect as a catch all or a purely decorative item.
