Bowl made from Ash

Finish - Invisible Tung Oil 

A hybrid shape which I have really taken to. This combines my cove design running to the base of the piece with a wide rim detail inside.

A beautiful example of some clean ash, with one small patch of olive heartwood on the rim which I decided to leave. More often than not there is natural staining within the material that I acquire from our woodland. These bits are perfect for my yakisugi projects but when it comes this clean it’s an obvious choice to leave it natural.

This piece has some beautiful wide grain patterns and a little ripple in places. I’ve been really enjoying playing with these rim, lip and foot details recently.

The bowl is finished using an ‘invisible’ tung oil which maintains the natural pale colour of the material. Some other finishes can really yellow the look of wood which I dislike intensely.
