Yakisugi Bowl - in Ash
Yakisugi Bowl from Ash
Size - D 9cm x H 6.5cm
Finish - Tung Oil and Waxes
A play on two concave curves forming the sides and base of the bowl.
Made from storm fallen Ash sourced from woodland adjoining the workshop in Kent.
The object has been scorched with a blowtorch then meticulously burnished, removing loose char and bringing the surface to a slight polish. Inspired by ‘Yakisugi’, a Japanese method of wood preservation using fire.
The orientation and form of this bowl is chosen to highlight some beautiful grain.
All pieces are stamped with my makers mark, a very subtle ‘H’ on the underside so as to not detract from the beauty of the object.
For decoration or display
- Tung Oil comes from a nut so please be aware if you have a nut allergy.
