Finish - Hard Wax Oil

A new contemporary design, clean and simple lines with a thin edge and a ring detail on the base making a shadow gap, lifting the piece off the surface. 

A food safe finish allows flexibility of use. Could be used for fruit or a decorative table centrepiece. 

This is storm fallen beech, sourced one hundred meters down the road from us. It’s a tree that I’ve walked past my whole life and was sad to see it had fallen in the strong winds earlier this year.

I was even sadder to find it was destined to be firewood. After reasoning with the tree surgeons I managed to save a good portion of the main trunk. Being just under a meter in diameter it was a bit of an undertaking to get it back to the workshop.

The wood was delightfully clean with a beautiful wave running through so I decided to make some pieces like this rather than letting the wood spalt. 

So glad I went to the effort to recover this wood. I couldn’t bare it just to be burnt.
